Features

The deck salon motor cruiser has been a popular powerboat configuration as far back as the early 1930s. The large aft cockpit and protected midship salon were adopted from commercial fishing vessels of the time. Today in New England, the aft cockpit and midship-raised house is most common on lobster boats, so we tend to call the pleasure version of this configuration a “Lobster-yacht”. WEBFOOT has some aesthetic similarities to the commercial lobster boat, but few technical similarities. Standing on deck, one can imagine oneself circa 1935, while a cut of the hull matrix would suggest the yacht came from the Boeing aircraft of today.

The hull was designed specifically with a center of gravity to accommodate the yacht type appointments and interior layout. The hull has parallel aft sections to provide less resistance and a more level run than a commercial craft. The pronounced bow flair and narrower beam provide a dryer deck and more comfort for the crew made up of family rather than fishermen.

Construction

WEBFOOT’s build uses a combination of traditional yacht design and modern technology, which is typical of French & Webb and is what we do best.

On deck you can see beautiful bronze hardware and below she is constructed with an epoxy and carbon fiber hull skin. Add to the mix a modern FPT diesel engine, fully electronic common rail fuel injection and control, which consumes the minimal amount of diesel at every speed. The power plant is coupled to a five blade custom fabricated propeller from ZF. The Delta Fan controlled engine air intake and ventilation, and modern DC/AC electrical system, place the yacht’s technical aspects in a class of their own.

Running performance and crew comfort are assured by the state-of-the-art design from the design firm of Mark Fitzgerald. Construction of the hull and deck are built to the algorithms of CS/ISO 12215-5 scantling rule. Each hull is evaluated given the owner’s brief with all characteristics and hydrostatics studied digitally before the hull is lofted.
